Avast, me hearties!
September 19th, 2009How big is your booty? It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day! It is only appropriate that I introduce you to some of our new friends.

This is Barnacle Brett, the Captain’s daughter and Lady Fayre.

Lady Fayre is Captain Arrrhhdee’s wench. He led me to believe he wanted to purchase some booty for her, but then tried to hornswaggle* me. I declared mutiny* and since he was loaded to the gunwalls*, I was able to grab his gun and demand payment or else I’d send him to Davy Jones’ Locker*. As he was leaving I told him if I saw his kind in my shop again, I’d keelhaul* ‘em! (Sorry, pirate friends. This is also how I sound when I try to talk gangsta…)
Glossary of Pirate terms I am sure I used incorrectly:
*Hornswaggle- To cheat.
*Mutiny- To rise against authority, especially the captain of a ship.
*Loaded to the Gunwalls- To be..um…tipsy.
*Davy Jones’ Locker- A fictional place at the bottom of the ocean. In short, a term meaning death. Davy Jones was said to sink every ship he ever over took, and thus, the watery grave that awaited all who were sunk by him was given his name. To die at sea is to go to Davy Jones’ Locker.
*Keelhaul- To punish someone by dragging them under a ship, across the keel, until near-death or death. Both pirates and the Royal Navy were fond of this practice.
Happy TLAP Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the incredibly talented Justin Sanchez. He was at ArtWalk last weekend demonstrating the process of glass blown art. It is exciting to watch him create such beautiful pieces from glass and fire. We are selling gorgeous pendants, drink stirrers and sweet little hand blown jars. Come by and check them out!
My Leetle Friend
July 31st, 2009One of my favorite artists/people is Kai. He visits us at the shop and drinks all of our coffee. He uses found objects to create art with a welding machine and blow torch. To say he is an interesting character would be an understatement. The picture above is a lobster made from ceiling fan parts and a Christmas tin he swiped from me. He is currently working on something he describes as a turbine. It has a motor. If he doesn’t lose any fingers while creating it, I’ll post pics when it is completed. This is his bio:
Kai Urushihara
Height: 5ft 7in
Weight: 165 lbs.
Class: Warrior/Scientist
Occupation: Unemployed
Hobbies: Welding, Farming, Human History, Philosophy, Potato Mongering, Cooking
Kai likes to work with metal because metal is tough and forgiving. If the metal is in a shape he doesn’t like, he just bashes it with a rock until he likes it.
Kai is described by many as an enigma. He is also an egomaniac: He wrote this bio while pretending to be someone else!
Likes: Seafood, coffee, potatoes, explosions
Dislikes: Spicy food, things-that-kill-me, Floors

This piece that Darren is wearing is made from an old water heater. It’s so heavy, Darren was actually 4 inches shorter when he took it off. True story…
